Flavour Variants & Heat Levels
Shock & Awe (Grenade) – Heat Level 4 / 5
Our hottest sauce
Not for the faint-hearted. Shock & Awe was created at the request of serious heat seekers and delivers a deep, powerful, sustained burn. Made with almost 90% American-grown orange habanero peppers, this sauce brings intense heat balanced by a surprisingly sweet aroma and flavour.
Perfect for experienced chilli lovers, many fans use Shock & Awe to “spike” Dead Red when making wings or sauces that need an extra punch.
Dead Red is The General’s original and best-known hot sauce. Made with nearly 90% fully ripe red cayenne peppers, hand-picked, salted and aged to perfection. The result is a fresh, authentic cayenne flavour that’s rich and vibrant, without being overwhelmed by vinegar.
This is a versatile, everyday hot sauce with true chilli character.
Best with: Eggs, pizza, wings, burgers, fries Heat profile: Clean, fresh cayenne heat with depth
Danger Close – Heat Level 3.5 / 5
Strong heat
Danger Close sits perfectly between Dead Red and Shock & Awe. A carefully balanced blend of red cayenne and orange habanero peppers, it delivers bold cayenne flavour with a noticeable habanero kick at the finish.
Widely considered the ultimate buffalo wing sauce, it brings more heat than Dead Red without crossing into extreme territory.
Best with: Buffalo wings, fried chicken, grilled meats Heat profile: Bold cayenne upfront, habanero heat on the finish
Grunt Green – Heat Level 2.5 / 5
Medium heat · Tangy and earthy
Made with green cayenne peppers picked just before they turn red, Grunt Green offers a tangy, earthy flavour with the same rich chilli concentration as Dead Red. These peppers are aged slightly longer, resulting in a uniquely balanced, fresh and savoury sauce.
A favourite for those who love flavour-forward heat without overwhelming spice.
Best with: Tacos, eggs, seafood, grilled vegetables Heat profile: Bright, tangy cayenne with gentle warmth
